Digital Mammography

Digital MammographyEarly Detection

Screening mammography continues to provide the greatest weapon we have against breast cancer. The Harrington Breast Center provides women with the benefit of state-of-the-art technology and procedures. We feature state-of-the-art Selenia digital mammography. We also employ Computer Aided Detection (CAD) technology which double checks all of our screening mammograms. CAD has been shown to increase breast cancer detection by up to 20%.

Digital Mammography

Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is acquired and, more importantly, viewed. The radiologist can magnify the image and increase or decrease the contrast while reading the image. This allows the radiologist to be as thorough as possible in evaluating areas of concern.

Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) of Breast Cancer

The Harrington Breast Center proudly offers the innovative MammoReaderTM, a Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) system that searches for all primary signs of breast cancer. The MammoReaderTM does not replace your regular screening mammogram. It is an ancillary screening procedure that can give you even greater peace of mind. It is similar to having a "second set of eyes" review your mammogram. After your mammogram is performed, the MammoReaderTM scans your films digitally, and the computer analyzes the images for signs of breast cancer, identifying areas of concern for the doctor to review. This technology has been shown to increase detection of breast cancer by up to 20%.
