The Komen Grant
Sponsored by the Susan G Komen for the Cure/ Greater Amarillo Affiliate, The Harrington Breast Center is pleased to be a recipient of grant funding from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It enables the Harrington Breast Center to provide screening and diagnostic mammography services to a targeted population of medically underserved women, particularly rural women in the Texas Panhandle. In addition to screening and diagnostic clinics held by the Harrington Breast Center located in Amarillo, screening clinics are also held weekly by three mobile units in 46 established outreach locations in the Texas Panhandle.
The funds are used for women who live in Texas, ages 35-49, who meet financial qualifications, and are not covered by insurance, Medicare, Medicaid or other funding sources that cover screening and diagnostic mammography. In addition, for diagnostic mammography, the project targets younger women who have a high risk of breast cancer.
The American Cancer Society screening guidelines recommend mammograms beginning annually at age 40; however, if the patient has a family history of breast cancer, the physician may recommend beginning mammograms at an earlier age.

Thousands of Panhandle women have benefited from this fund since it was started in 2004.
